A man was squashed to death when a vehicle fell on him while he was taking its exhaust system, an investigation heard.
Gary Gray, 38, from Swindon, was found under the vehicle by staff at JB Autos in the town, when they came into work the following morning on 15 November.
Wiltshire and Swindon Coroner’s Court heard the vehicle jack became “unstuck” and the vehicle dropped on to him.
Aide coroner Ian Singleton closed Mr Gray’s demise was inadvertent.
The investigation heard he had broken into the carport in Stratton Road, on the Marshgate Industrial Estate, night-time.
Chest compacted
An individual from staff discovered his body caught under the vehicle at about 08:45 GMT the following morning.
In an announcement read at the investigation, Sgt Scott Anger said Mr Gray, of Beverley, Toothill, had “picked up section illicitly medium-term”.

- “He was taking an exhaust system yet his chest had been compacted,” he said.
- “The vehicle jack had been unstuck.”
He included that Mr Gray had put a wooden board under the vehicle which “raised his body nearer to the vehicle, which was left in unbiased and would have moved off the vehicle jack since it was not verify.”
